The time is now

Italy needs doctors in its public health system.

There's a shortage of family doctors, unfilled positions in key specialties, and a large generation is retiring.

5,575

family doctors missing from the National Health Service

39,000+

public-system doctors retiring between 2026 and 2038

2,245

residency positions left without candidates in the 2025-2026 admissions round

15%

of residency contracts unfilled, with emergency medicine and general surgery among the emptiest fields

There is also a temporary regime until 2027.

Regions can hire healthcare professionals with foreign qualifications through an exceptional route, extended by Law 187/2024. It's a provisional and debated rule; in the pre-assessment we tell you whether it makes sense in your case or whether the permanent path is better.

Why doctors choose Italy

A solid career and time to live.

A strong public system

Universal healthcare, with one of the highest life expectancies in the world: 84.2 years.

Quality of life

Real food, walkable cities, trains and subways to get everywhere, and all of Europe a few hours away.

A future for your family

Public school for your children and public universities that can be free, depending on family income.

Step by step

From your degree back home to your first shift in Italy.

The process has clear stages. At each one, you know what you need to do and what we do for you.

  1. Pre-assessment of your profile

Degree, specialty, medical license registration, Italian citizenship, Italian level and preferred city. This gives you your path and a cost estimate.

We doWe review your documents and build a plan with realistic timelines.
  2. Documents in your home country

Diploma, transcript with course hours, course syllabi, medical board certificate (e.g. CRM in Brazil) and specialist titles, with Hague apostille and sworn translation into Italian.

We doPersonalized checklist, apostille, translations with partners and a check of every page before submission.
  3. Application to the Ministry of Health

The recognition application is filed online. For non-EU degrees, the case goes through a conference with the Ministry of University, which reviews your training.

We doWe prepare and file the dossier and follow the process until the decision.
  4. Recognition or additional requirements

The result may be direct recognition or a requirement to take an aptitude test in Italian or additional exams at an Italian university.

We doIf there's a test, we organize the preparation and medical Italian lessons with partners.
  5. Registration with the Medical Board

Once recognized, you register with the Medical Board (OMCeO) of the province where you'll practice, which checks your knowledge of Italian and of the law. You have two years to complete this registration.

We doWe prepare the paperwork and schedule everything with the Board.
  6. Visa and family move

With Italian citizenship, there's no visa. Without citizenship, the most common path for doctors with a contract is the EU Blue Card, outside the annual quotas, with streamlined family reunification.

We doVisa application, family documents and consulate appointments, with a partner lawyer when needed.
  7. Housing, arrival and first year

A home near the hospital, Codice Fiscale, residence, Permesso di Soggiorno, bank, your children's school, family doctor and professional liability insurance.

We doWe search for and visit homes for you, handle your arrival and support you throughout the first year.

FAQ

Questions every doctor asks

Do I need to speak Italian before I start?

Not to get started. The paperwork can move forward while you study. But the Medical Board checks your Italian before registration, and any aptitude test is taken in Italian. That's why the plan already includes lessons.

How much does the pre-assessment cost?

R$ 997, with a reply within 48 business hours after payment. If you hire us for the full process, this amount is deducted. [confirm discount]

How long does it take?

It depends on the result of the Ministry's review and on whether an additional test is required. In the pre-assessment we give you an estimate for your case. [average timeline to be set with the first clients]

Is my specialty recognized too?

The medical degree and the specialist title are reviewed separately. In the pre-assessment we check your specialty and the best path for it.

Can my family come with me?

Yes. With the EU Blue Card, family reunification is streamlined, and your spouse and children receive permits of the same length. With Italian citizenship, your family also has simple paths.

What is the temporary regime until 2027?

An exceptional route created during the pandemic that allows regions to hire healthcare professionals with foreign qualifications. It was extended until 2027, but it is provisional and there are proposals to end it. We assess whether it's worth it in your case, without losing sight of permanent recognition.

Do you guarantee approval?

No one can guarantee the Ministry's decision. What we guarantee is a complete, correct dossier, followed at every stage, which reduces delays and extra requests.
